Sydney tops Australian livable cities index

28 Jun

Sydney has been ranked as the top Australian city in an index of the most livable cities in the world.

Sydney ranked 10th behind the Swiss city of Zurich in the annual Mercer global index.

Melbourne is the next highest Australian city at 17th while Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane are also ranked in the top 35 cities in the world.

Rob Knox from Mercer says there are several reasons why Australian cities have scored so well.

“Australian cities offer great amenities, they’ve got very favourable climatic conditions,” he said.

“Australia as a whole is a politically stable country so I think those sorts of measures certainly weigh very heavily in Australia’s favour.”
